Shoo Fly

This big hunk of a Texas Longhorn steer is part of the breed of cattle program at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Museum, Yankee Doodle, as appropriately named, presents quite an attitude for his admirers.

For the thousands of tourists from all over the country who parade to the museum each year, he is the favorite photo subject. I get a chuckle from this situation, because he usually is not in the mood to be photographed. As I stood in front of him one day to sketch him and to take photos, he continued to gaze at me, chew his cud and flip his tail along his bony hip bones as if to say, “what you see is what you get.”
