I have started my journey on this beautiful black, brownish, white longhorn bull. I blocked in the bull with blacks and browns and of course a light gray and brown, then, I started painting the bull’s true colors as far as the photo allows me to do. Although his face on the photo is black with white highlights, I plan on bringing up the black with Burnt Umber and Transparent Red Oxide (just a touch though). Next comes rounding the horns with a little more Yellow Ochre, Burnt Umber and Titanium White. I will then follow up on the ears, adding a little more Burnt Umber and Transparent Red Oxide to make them a little transparent. I think I have decided to go ahead and paint three longhorns in the background, followed by the grassy area. Then, I’ll take a good look at the water. I have decided to paint more water and fewer lily pads.

I blocked in the two longhorns making a splash in the ol’ water hole. They look like they are having fun. I plan on elaborating on the churning water under the black and white longhorn’s front feet. I also plan on defining the reflections in the water a little more than what the photo shows. Anyway, I have my work cut out for me, not to mention naming this one. So far, I’m clueless. Maybe when I get into this painting I’ll have a better idea.
